Jetlagshppedthd...

We have an uneventful trip until the last leg of our trip from Kobe to Savannah was delayed about four hours.

I think we've turned the corner on our jetlag.  It has controlled us since we arrived.

The kids have been sleeping in the car a lot!

We are camping out in our house right now but we are slowing starting to fill it.  We are heading off to some yard sales and antique stores this weekend.

We've ordered the wood flooring and have to wait another week for it to arrive as well.

I'll be checking in to post what we are doing and to share pictures.

A Fun Filled Weekend

We started our weekend by going under contract on our new summer home!  Really it's the only home we pay for, so it's not like we're rolling in the dough so much as to have a summer home, but it just sounds more decadent as a "summer home".  I'll post more details about this later.  I don't want to curse anything.

Friday, Gigi (John's mom) took the day off, so we headed to Tybee Island.  Although it was a hot day, we had a lot of fun at the beach.

Saturday morning, Papa came over and we went to the Artzeum (Children's Interactive) show at the Telfair Art Museum.  Although it was a bit pricey, the kids had a good time.  Then we finished the morning off with lunch at Rancho Allegre - the awesome Cuban restaurant downtown, which just so happens to be a block away from our newly contracted home (extra perk!)

Hugo, Sarah and Charlie came into town on Saturday afternoon, so we went down to Tybee to check out the pool at their condo and had dinner with them.

Sunday, we went back down to the beach to hang with the Alfaros.  Then they came into town for dinner with Gigi... a perfect Southern summer dinner - pork barbecue, steamed shrimp, cucumber salad and orzo salad.

Today, John, Maximo and the Alfaros went out with Uncle Joe on a boat.  Max had a blast while Lola and I did a little shopping around.

Summer is good.

Summer Vacation - Week 1

I can't believe that we've been in the US for about a week now.  It's gone by so fast.  We had a few rough days of jetlag when we started our days at 2:00 am, but one did lead to an impromptu trip to watch the sunrise at the beach and an early morning trip to the 24-hour WalMart.

We've had a great time so far.  Savannah has been remarkably cool (for Savannah), although that's about to change.  We've gone house hunting and placed an offer on a house, and are dealing with that right now.

We've been to the new Children's Museum in Savannah.

Hung out with Gigi, Grandpa Jim and Papa and have spent a lot of time at the pool.

And already checked off some of our "must eats".

We're off to the beach in the next hour and we're excited for some friends to visit us next week.

Last Day of Train Camp

Miss Rebecca with her Train Ducklings

Maximo went to train camp this week at the Coastal Historical Society's Railroad Roundhouse. HE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! He would ask about going back to train camp as soon as we picked him up each day. There were eleven other little boys, ages 3-5 who got to learn more about trains, do artwork, read books, play with the train table and take trips around the Roundhouse facilities.

Today was the last day of camp and they invited families to join their kids on the steam engine ride, so we (and Gigi, too!) joined in on the loud and smokey authentic ride and couple of spins on the turntable.

Happy Fourth of July

Today the kids were dressed all patriotically and we went to the Georgia Train Museum. They've done some great things since the last time went there - about ten years ago with the kids I used to babysit. It's a lot more interactive than it used to be and there are many more things to see also. Maximo is going to Train Camp there next week and we wanted him to be familiar with the place, especially since he has been extra clingy with us combined with being a Superbig Scaredy Cat too!

We're sure it has to do with our travels this summer and being away from John for three weeks - but he's now petrified of elevators and went through a bout with being afraid of toilets flushing after using the airplane toilet.

Anyhow, here are a couple of pictures.

Tonight Gigi is coming over to watch Lola (hopefully sleep) and we're going to take Maximo to his first fireworks. Hopefully he'll enjoy it and not freak out!
Riding the hand car at the Georgia Train Museum

Yes, that's baby powder all over the top of her dress - she has open sores in her neck from the heat and the three rolls she's sporting - it's gross and they are starting to bother her.

Georgia - so far

Here's a slideshow of pictures from our Georgia adventure. I'll be updating this folder. There are some great beach and grandparent shots!

We've been in Savannah for almost a week already - summer vacation always seems to go by so fast! We're catching up with John's side of the family and have had two great days at the beach with Gigi.

We're renting a garden floor apartment in a nice Victorian home right on Forsyth Park (where we got married). It's the perfect location and it's so nice to have our own space (which is bigger than our Japanese apartment) - with a full kitchen and washer and dryer which is a necessity when traveling with kids. When we arrived, the owner gave us basil and peppers from her garden - that's my idea of a perfect bouquet!

A Grand Day in Atlanta

We're in Atlanta right now on a whirlwind stop between Connecticut and Georgia. We stopped here because I had an IB conference to attend and we have a lot of friends and family that live here. I've been tied up the conference until today, but have managed to fit in dinners with Karen, my college roommate, her husband and sweet baby daughter, Katherine. We've seen my aunt, uncle and cousins a couple of times, and our dear friends, the Alfaros.

Today we had a full day of fun. We started at the Georgia Aquarium which was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! It puts the Mystic Aquarium to shame, I must say. Then we went over to Centennial Park and played in the fountains, ran back to the hotel for naps, then headed over to Uncle Steve's. What a great, great day. Tomorrow, we head down to Savannah and we can't wait!

Seriously... how cute! For never meeting each other before this week, Willie and Zach were so super awesome to their little cousins. They played with Max and loved making Lola smile. Tonight after dinner, they helped Max catch fireflies in the yard and they let him go through all their things and tag a long! We can't wait to hang out again!
